The Longer Story

About Me

Hi, I'm Andrew, although many people know me as Drew.

I was born and raised in London and now live in Perth, Western Australia.

When I look back over my life, I can see a thread connecting many different chapters: professional dance, teaching, bodywork, Reiki, creativity, spirituality and tarot.

At the time, these paths often felt separate. Looking back now, I can see they were all teaching me something about awareness, connection and the human experience.

Today, tarot is where many of those threads come together.

It is not something I arrived at overnight. It has been part of my life for more than twenty years, shaped by many experiences that changed the way I understand myself, other people and the world around me.

The Experience That Changed My Life

The beginning of my spiritual journey came through an unexpected doorway: an injury.

At the time, I was working professionally as a contemporary dancer in London. Dance had been a huge part of my life, and I had built my identity around movement, performance and physical expression.

Then I injured my knee.

I had a partial tear in my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and although I followed the usual approaches of rest, treatment and rehabilitation, my recovery was not progressing in the way I hoped.

Some time before this happened, I had picked up a book about Reiki in a bookshop. I cannot explain exactly why I was drawn to it, but something about it caught my attention.

After my injury, I found myself returning to that curiosity.

Eventually, I made the decision to sell my car and travel to India to explore Reiki more deeply.

That journey became a turning point in my life.

During my first experience of Reiki, the practitioner did not physically touch me. He simply worked with energy around my body, and I experienced the pain in my knee begin to change in a way I had never experienced before. After living with persistent knee pain for so long, finding myself pain-free was both unexpected and deeply significant.

Whatever explanation someone may place around that experience, for me it was the moment I became aware that there were aspects of healing and human experience that I did not yet understand.

It opened a door.

Around a year later, I experienced what many people would describe as a Kundalini awakening. I often think of it less as a label and more as an expansion of awareness. The words matter less to me than the experience itself.

My perception of life changed profoundly. As my intuition developed in ways I could not easily explain, I found myself exploring questions that had never really been part of my life before.

Maybe the biggest question was:

“Who am I?”

That question humbled me.

It changed the way I saw myself and the world around me. I began to understand that life was not something I could simply control and shape through will alone. Over time, I learned to listen more deeply, to allow, and to be present with what unfolds rather than resist.

My connection with tarot began during this same period of change.

After returning from India, I briefly offered Reiki sessions in London. I placed some flyers around different locations, including a theatre because of my background in the performing arts.

One of those flyers was seen by a psychic intuitive tarot reader who contacted me for an energy healing session.

We decided to exchange our services: I would offer Reiki, and she would give me a tarot reading.

That reading stayed with me.

What struck me was not just the cards themselves, but the feeling of being deeply seen and understood. It felt as though the reading was revealing aspects of myself that I had not yet fully recognised.

She also encouraged me to trust my own intuition and the impressions that were coming through in my own work.

After that, I bought my first tarot deck.

At first, the cards became a way of exploring my own experiences and finding guidance during a time of significant personal change. Over time, they became something much deeper than an interest.

They became a language of reflection, intuition and awareness that has remained part of my life ever since.

During these years of exploration, I was also drawn to the I Ching, or Book of Changes, and its approach to reflection, change and the patterns within our lives. Like tarot, I found it offered a different way of approaching questions and bringing something that may be beneath the surface into awareness.

It became another thread in my broader exploration of intuition and divination, alongside the many other experiences that were shaping my understanding at the time.

The Experience That Shaped Me

Before tarot became a central part of my work, I spent many years as a professional dancer and later as a teacher.

Dance taught me that understanding does not always begin with the mind. The body has its own intelligence. Sometimes we know something physically before we can explain it intellectually.

Teaching reminded me of something equally important: everyone develops in their own way and at their own pace.

Later, I continued exploring the relationship between the body, awareness and healing through further training in Remedial Massage Therapy, Swedish Massage and Reiki.

My exploration of Reiki began in 2002 when I completed my initial Reiki Level 1 and Level 2 training in India. Years later, I continued and expanded this journey in Western Australia, undertaking further Reiki Level 1 and Level 2 training and completing Reiki Master certification.

These experiences shaped the way I relate to people today.

They reinforced the importance of listening, being present, and respecting the uniqueness of each person's journey.

Over the years, I have also received tarot readings myself. Some readings I experienced more than twenty years ago still stay with me today. Their meaning has continued to unfold as my own life has changed.

Those experiences remind me that a reading is not simply a moment that begins and ends in one session. Sometimes words, images, visceral impressions, and insights can continue to unfold within someone for years.

That understanding is something I carry into every reading.

How I Approach Tarot

My relationship with tarot has continued to evolve over the years. I do not see tarot as a way of predicting a fixed future, although my experiences have led me to remain open to the possibility that some aspects of what unfolds may already exist in some form beyond our conscious awareness. I see tarot as a tool for reflection and as a way of bringing something into awareness that may already be present within someone.

I remain open to the mystery of intuition and the experiences that have shaped my understanding of guidance. My exploration has included not only tarot, but also other systems of divination and reflection, including the I Ching. Each has its own language and tradition, but what continues to interest me is the way these practices can help us pause, look more deeply, and become aware of something we may not have seen before.

What continues to interest me most about tarot is the way it helps reveal what is already there. The cards often do not create new answers. They bring feelings, patterns, possibilities, or deeper understandings into clearer focus.

Alongside the cards, I also work intuitively with my connection to spirit guides and angels, which is part of my personal experience of guidance. I respect that everyone has their own beliefs and relationship with spirituality, and you do not need to share my perspective to benefit from a reading.

I do not believe I heal others or hold the answers to someone else's life. I believe each person already carries their own inner wisdom, even when fear or uncertainty makes it harder to access. My role is to create a calm, supportive space where someone can slow down and reconnect with what they already know.

The moments that mean the most to me are when someone leaves a reading having recognised something for themselves, rather than simply receiving an answer from me. Sometimes that recognition happens during the reading, and sometimes it unfolds long afterwards. That is the heart of why I do this work.

To offer perspective, support, and a space where people can trust themselves a little more.

Or a lot more. Who am I to limit your growth.
